Suzanne brought this NT Times Magazine article to my attention the other day. It's long, but worth reading.
I'm fighting a stuffy head right now, so I'm going to put off commentary on this article for a day or two, but it presents some important food for thought about the nature of not just education as a profession, but the potential of community education as a social construct.
